    UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital iscurrently hiring full time Professional Staff Nurses to support our obstetric(OB) units. Our OB units include:

    · Labor and Delivery- an extraordinarilyhigh volume maternity unit dedicated to caring for patients experiencingnormal/natural child birth, as well as complicated high risk deliveries, patientswith drug addictions, and pregnancy loss. The Labor & Delivery Departmenthouses 5 operating rooms and 10 PACU bays directly on the unit. You will workwith many different OB disciplines and providers with various approaches tochild birth-including family practice physicians, OB attending physicians, andmidwives.

    · Mother/Baby (3700/3800)- a 56-bed MotherBaby unit providing service and care to mother-baby couplets who are well, butadditionally treating mothers with pre-eclampsia, newborns whose mothers arediagnosed with chorioamnionitis, high risk postpartum conditions such asNeonatal Abstinence Syndrome, and surgical patients who have undergoneC-section, post-partum tubal ligation, and/or hysterectomy during childbirth.This is a fast-paced unit that provides staff with the extremely rewardingopportunity to impact and educate new families as well as work through adoptionand surrogate scenarios.

    · Antepartum (2800)- a 28-bed high riskantepartum unit with a welcoming staff and a teamwork-focused environment. Ourwork includes non-stress tests, stent and cerclage placements, and wounddebridement; we partner closely with the physician team to care for high riskpregnancies, preterm labor, C-sections, and methadone conversions, as well asdelivered patients with infants admitted to the NICU and fetal demise mothers.Due to the nature of the unit, our patients can experience very high highs andvery low lows, and are in need of uniquely compassionate attention and care.

    Our RNs on all OB units work a rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor, including rotating holidays and weekend.

    Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrates critical thinkingin the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, andspiritual issues for the patient within an episode of care.

    • Practices solid communicationskills, and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition toother care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changesin patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensiveand promotes communication between caregivers.

    • Creates a caring andcompassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationshipswith patients, families, and colleagues.

    • Incorporates nationalprofessional organization as well as business unit and health system goalsto improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

    • Demonstrates knowledge of adultlearning principles (and/or teaching children if applicable) and appliesin teaching of patients, families, students, and new staff. Providesdetailed and appropriate teaching to patients and families to effectivelyguide them through the episode of care as well as transition to anotherlevel of care and/or home.

    • Supports the development ofstudents, new staff, and colleagues; may serve as preceptor.

    Qualifications

    • 6 months RN experiencerequired, 1+ years of RN experience strongly preferred

    • BSN preferred

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    o UPMC approved national certification preferred.

    o Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.

    o Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal

    o Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal

    o Act 73 FBI Clearance

    o Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
