    • The PCA co-op student is a current nursing student between their junior and senior year. The co-op position is a 12 week commitment in which the student works thirty -six hours per week; twenty-four hours in a PCA role and twelve hours as a nursing co-op student under the direct supervision of an RN. While working as a co-op student, the PCA co-op student integrates academic learnings with practice opportunity. The PCA co-op student functions as a member of the patient care team by caring for patients and providing support services under the direction of the Registered Nurse. As a member of the healthcare team, the PCA co-op student will employ interpersonal and teamwork skills. The PCA co-op performance will be evaluated by both the university and the employer.

    Provides patient care by assisting patients with comfort measures, activities of daily living, and procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse.

    Observes and communicates changes in the patient's condition to the Registered Nurse.

    Directs patient/family issues and concerns to the Registered Nurse.

    Provides population specific patient care based on the unit scope of services.

    Adheres to the safety policies and procedures of the organization. Recognizes and reports potential safety issues.

    Demonstrates ability to utilize patient care equipment within scope of training.

    Maintains confidentiality and actively supports patient/family rights.

    Supports and contributes to organizational cost-saving initiatives.

    Participates in unit/divisional shared leadership councils.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION

    Required Minimum Education:

    High School Diploma or GED

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):

    Required : BLS- American Hear Association

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Years and Type of Experience: Enrolled in an accredited BSN program between junior and senior year. Completed 1 semester of nursing school clinicals
