    Job Summary and Qualifications

    The PBX Operator is responsible for operating the hospital switchboard and pager system, as well as implementing all emergency plans according to hospital policy. The candidate will need to be flexible with shifts, including day, swing, or 3rd shift. While dayshift opportunities are limited due to the possibility of reassigning operators, occasional coverage may be needed for last-minute call outs. The PRN role is primarily utilized for call outs and PTO coverage, and candidates may be scheduled for a few days when requests are being filled. Additionally, candidates will undergo a two-week training period, with the possibility of scheduling flexibility within that timeframe, although consecutive training days are preferred for better retention of PBX duties.

    What you will do in this role:

    • Receive and direct all incoming calls to the appropriate party in a timely and professional manner.

    • Coordinate with hospital units and staff during visitation times, providing excellent customer service to all stakeholders.

    • Assist customers, patients, and families during phone calls and visitation times, as well as those waiting to be seen by hospital staff.

    • Answers hospital lines for three facilities directing outside and internal calls appropriately.

    • Utilizes beepers and overhead paging according to policy and procedures.

    • Monitors security and facility alarms, notifying appropriate personal as needed.

    • Sends Trauma Communicators.

    • Stamps any outgoing mail. Sorts mail daily, placing it in corresponding department boxes.

    • Help with training and guidance of new staff.

    • Help maintain updated facility information i.e.: logs, lists, and on-calls.

    • Assist and/ or direct everyone who comes to the office window appropriately and in a courteous manner.

    • Issues and receives wheelchairs and sanitizes them after each use.

    What qualifications you will need:

    • High School Graduate or GED.

    • Good communication skills, operator experience, experience in customer service and preferably dispatch.

    • Customer service experience preferred.

    • Previous PBX, switchboard/multiline business telephone system experience preferred.

    • Ability to work PRN schedule. Available to work all shifts.
