  • Description

    Under supervision of the Principal Investigator and postdoctoral fellows, assist in research experiments in a lab using molecular, biochemical, structural and cellular-based approaches to study proteins involved metabolic syndrome and related conditions. Major functions include: assisting with maintaining cultures of stem cells, assist with molecular biology techniques (under supervision) such as PCR analysis, maintain mice colony, and general lab support.

    Pay Range: $18.67-21.61Qualifications

    REQUIRED

    Working knowledge of solution chemistry to allow preparation of media, stock solutions, and buffers.

    Ability to use computers to accurately enter data.

    Knowledge of accepted/approved procedures in working with bacteria and cell lines.

    Demonstrated writing skills for generation of basic laboratory protocols and to insure acceptable record/data keeping.

    Ability to follow instructions and protocols to perform assignments with minimal supervision.

    Reading skills sufficient to understand journal articles and scientific protocols.

    Previous experience in research lab setting.

    Knowledge of sterile culture techniques.

    Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and to understand and carry out verbal instructions. Skill in communicating clearly and effectively to receive and convey information accurately and in a professional manner.

    Demonstrated ability to work as member of team.

    PREFERRED

    Skill in laboratory safety protocols including proper handling of biohazardous substances, including chemicals.

    Skill in use of specialized lab equipment (PCR, autoclave, pH meters, centrifuges, HPLCs, etc.).

    Demonstrated ability to perform/detailed or complicated lab procedures, sometimes requiring delicate manual or manipulative skills.
