Have you ever sat around your house or apartment and turned on the television set? After using your remote to go through all one hundred and ninety eight channels, it is not uncommon to say “there is nothing on worth watching.” Television just doesn’t provide the kind of creative stimulation that will allow you to be self actualized and make the best use of your time between your career search activities. Let me share with you a better way to create a strategy to have a list of fun and exciting things to do on a regular basis.
The first thing you need to do is to take a sheet of paper or get on your computer and pull up a blank page to do some writing. Let your mind run wild and start writing down all the fun and crazy things you like to do or have done. Include as many as you can think of that would be worth doing. Include things you can do on your own, as well as with your friends and family members.
After you have finished this brainstorming session, go back and prioritize the things you want to do, during the next twelve months. Put the letter “A” next to the ones "you really want" to include on your twelve month chart. Put the letter “B” next to the activities that "you want" to do and put the letter “C” next to the ones that "would be nice" to do.
Next, take a fresh sheet of paper or pull up another blank page on your computer screen. Down the left side of the page record list of activities you want to participate in over the next year. Start with the “A” activities first, then list the “B” activities, and finally the “C” activities. Now, across the top of the page, to the right of the column of activities, from right to left, write in the twelve months of the year. Draw vertical lines to form columns below each month. When you are finished go back to the activities you have listed on the left and go down the list and put an “x” in the column of the corresponding month in which you wish to do that activity.
When you are finished you will have a year at a glance chart, listing the activities you want to do month by month. Pick the exact day you will engage in those activities and you will be on your way to having one of the best years of your life.
