Anxiety Over Graduation? Don't Fret

Posted by

Since it's now May, many readers are preparing for the often celebrated, yet uneasy feeling of graduating college. Now begins the frantic search for a summer job, internship, long-term job or a change of location. Regardless of what you're facing, it's safe to say that big changes are upon you.

The good news is you are not alone. All across the world, students have stressed about this time in their lives for centuries. Yes, maybe the economy is a bit rough for some industries but things are looking up. In many cases, the job markets are bouncing back and people are thinking outside the box - going to non-profit organizations, for example, or working overseas.

I recently wrote an article on tips on dealing with graduation. I remember my undergraduate graduation day like it was yesterday and how it felt like I was at an impasse. I could go or do anything, but wanted to find a job in my field that would lead to a successful career. I hear from many younger people that the 'not knowing' is the hardest part. That's why it's important to listen to those older than you - whatever decision you make, do it for the right reasons. It's cliche, but even if it doesn't make sense now, you will look back on your decisions and realize why they worked at the time. If they didn't work, hopefully you will learn from them and change them for the better.

I also found an article that I think might be helpful if you are stressed, anxious, or nervous about your impending decisions. Keep in mind that it's normal to feel this way and, at one point or another, everyone else feels pressure about life changes. Figure out what works best for you, at this time, and everything will fall into place. Remember to breathe.
