ULTRASOUND TECH PRN Location: Methodist Richardson Medical Center - Campbell Road Campus Department: Ultrasound Services Schedule: Shift: Hours: call required Job Details: * Provides health care services applying sonic energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in OB/GYN, abdomen and vascular sonography. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by or at the request of a licensed practioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure or exam. * Demonstrates Proficiency in Equipment Operation. Selects the appropriate transducers and other associated equipment to achieve optimal results. Positions the patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest. Determines proper ultrasonic frequency for anatomic area of interest. Evaluates images for technical quality. Effectively demonstrates the anatomic area of interest and assures proper identification is recorded. Takes restricted call and responds in a timely manner. Is competent in the use and testing of solutions for transducer sterilization. Reports equipment malfunction to the department director and/or service technicians in order to expedite repairs. Competent in the use of the departmental Radiology Information System (RIS). * Maintains Record Keeping. Maintains the Ultrasound logbook for daily scan activity. Assures the master jacket and insert document the prescribed procedure. Creates the appropriate insert jacket (New insert for each exam). Charges all billable supplies to the patient. Demonstrates Proficiency with Imager Usage. Loads film correctly. Assists with maintaining the imager. * Demonstrates Knowledge and Understanding of Environmental Processes. Cleans work area. Cleans patient exam area. Maintains appropriate supplies on a daily basis. Demonstrates Proficiency in Patient Care. Compares the requisition with the physician order. Explains the procedure to the patient. Obtains patient consent for the prescribed exam. Coordinates the patient's clinical history with the procedure requested, assuring information is documented and available for the licensed practitioner at the time of interpretation. Verifies the pain management form is completed. Positions the patient to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest respecting the patient's ability and comfort. * Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
