MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Under general supervision, incumbent provides immediate supervision to technical and related Radiology personnel. Prepares daily work assignments and ensures efficient day-to-day operation of the unit; ensures quality assurance of services and provides continuing education updates. Maintains supply levels for unit. Reports to Operations Manager

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides immediate supervision to all radiology technical personnel assigned.

Ensures proper quality and quantity of work done by unit members; prepares daily work assignments. Reassigns personnel as required.

Assures proper completion of records by technologist for billing and recording purposes. Records include requisitions.

Communicates and coordinates with staff of previous and next shift regarding equipment problems, waiting patients and other like information. May need to locate engineers in-house or contract service personnel for equipment repairs.

Ensures proper stock of supplies, including film, linens and contents of emergency cart.

Orients and supervises all technical and clinical support of the designated unit. Provides immediate supervision and assigns work, evaluates performance and ensures on-going training.

Functions as a liaison between physicians and support staff, explaining Department procedures, resolving problems and coordinating activities which affect patient care. Ensures all information regarding procedural or operational changes in the Unit is communicated to appropriate Department and Hospital personnel.

Implements work schedules and sets work assignments. Completes and approves weekly time sheets.

Functions as a liaison between physicians and Marthas Vineyard Hospital for teleradiology related activities.

Performs evaluations and recommendations, with input from the technical manager, regarding additional equipment and technical protocols; completes new testing procedures and assists in establishing new techniques and protocols.

Works closely with the Radiology Image Service Center and Digital Imaging.

Prepares shift report for senior management on all aspects of Unit operations as appropriate or as requested.

Notifies Radiology Department engineers and vendor service personnel of equipment failure.

Ensure that all Unit, Department, Hospital and JC guidelines are met.

Performs the duties of a radiologic technologist as needed. Duties include, adjusting equipment to correct setting, positioning and instructing patient regarding procedures and prepares/administers mixtures. Directs patients in the proper procedure for follow-up medical care, according to physician's instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree required in addition to a satisfactory completion of an AMA approved radiography training program.

Must be certified by the ARRT and must possess a valid license to practice as a radiologic technologist in the state of Massachusetts.

Should possess 3-5 years of related experience.

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent computer skills

Must be able to lift over 5 pounds.

CPR certification

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.

Knowledge of the principles of radiation physics and radiographic chemistry.

Knowledge of radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment.

Knowledge of universal precautions.

Knowledge of Diagnostic equipment.

Effective interpersonal and communications skills.

Attention to detail.

Ability to provide compassionate care to patients.

Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.

Ability to lift over 5 lbs.
