Responsibilities
Provides direct visual surveillance for patients under the supervision of nursing staff. Provides close and/or continuous observation of adolescent, adult and elderly patients who may be unsafe to themselves or others. Ensures optimal patient safety and patient comfort. Communicates frequently with patients, visitors and co-workers. Uses judgment in order to maintain good will and promote cooperation with the patient and family members. Uses discretion when presenting and discuss information about patients or unit activities. Demonstrates the abilities to rotate through different units in the hospital, and perform competently in all areas where assignedPerforms various direct patient care activities under the oversight of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Understands and routinely uses policies and procedures as a reference for performance. Assists with diagnostic tests and clinical procedures in accordance with level of training and departmental procedures. Assists with procedures, personal care, and activities of daily living. Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of patients. Consults and coordinates with health care team members to implement patient care plans. Follows multidisciplinary plan of care as indicated by patients' progress. Monitors, records, and reports symptoms and changes in patients' conditions. Records patients' medical information and vital signs. Monitors all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity. Prepares patients for and assists with examinations and treatments. Communicates with physicians, patients, patients' families, visitors, and co-workers. Duties vary and increase in complexity as levels increase. Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of patients. Education Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required. CNA I or II certification.
Experience, Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
Safety Observation Sitter 1: NA1
Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to provide assistive patient care of human injuries, diseases, and deformities. Ability to follow written plan of care. Ability to provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and on going mentoring from Registered Nurse and/or LPN. Professional demeanor and ability to multi-task. Knowledge of regulatory standards- i.e. CAP, Joint Commission, NPSG. Applies fundamental problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrates good interpersonal communication skills. Proficient basic math skills. Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply instructions and written manuals. Good communication and time management
Safety Observation Sitter2: NA2
Performs more complex skills of sterile technique, diagnostic tests and specimen collection. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish routine to moderately complex tasks. Can demonstrate advanced performance, skills and competencies within a team. Able to provide basic assistive care with minimal supervision from Registered Nurse and/or LPN.

Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
