Registered Nurse (RN)-Hematology/Oncology
Do you have a passion to care for our nations heroes? Then consider this dream job in a cutting edge, professional, fast-paced Military Facility! The Naval Medical Center is currently seeking a Registered Nurse in our Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic in Portsmouth, Virginia.
The ideal candidate will:
Interview patients and assess their condition upon arrival at clinic and throughout the duration of their visit
Interview the patient and the family to determine the need for nursing intervention, formulate nursing care plan and perform specialized skilled nursing based on the nursing assessment and the physician's orders
Perform procedures such as accessing central venous catheters, obtaining blood specimens from both CVC's and from peripheral veins for laboratory testing, obtaining peripheral IV access, administering chemotherapy in a proficient manner disposing of chemotherapy waste promptly and safely, administering blood products in the outpatient setting
Contact new patients and families as well as referring physicians to facilitate preauthorization and registration, and collection of records, labs and x-rays prior to the NMCP Pediatric Hematology Oncology visit.
Assume responsibility of chart review in preparing for patient visits; identify proper nursing care and appropriate follow-up.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate must possess:
Certification in Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
Certification by the Oncology Nursing Certification Program as a (OCN), Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse (CPON), or an Advanced Practice Oncology Nurse (AOCN)
Three (3) years of full-time clinical experience as a pediatric nurse with at least one (1) year full-time experience providing outpatient nursing care to pediatric cancer patients within the last five (5) years in a clinical setting.
A valid, unrestricted license or certification to practice as an RN in one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
