The position contains both Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) functions.
(QA) –Responsibilities include investigating, planning, and implementing the improvements in food safety, quality and manufacturing processes with the end result of producing a better quality product more efficiently. The Specialist also ensures compliance to food safety and quality policy, respond to customer complaints, perform internal and supplier audits, and/or write procedures as required.
(QC) -Responsibilities include providing product support to Operations and external customers through a variety of analytical chemistry and wet chemistry techniques. This includes sampling raw materials, developing test methods, and chemical analysis. The Specialist will also perform or support process and/or analytical method validation, and writing protocol and reports. Responsibilities:
* Providing support in the development, maintenance and improvement of the overall Food Safety and Quality Management System through SOP development, internal audit and corrective and preventive actions programs. * Analyzing data of raw material and finished goods testing to identify trend and opportunities for improvement. * Perform internal and supplier audit, and assist in the customer and external audit, and regulatory inspections. * Coordinating non-conformity and customer complaint investigation and resolution. * Conduct and/ or coordinate samples analysis to support supplier qualification, process/ product improvement. * Providing support for new product development including raw material risk assessment and finished product shelf life studies etc. * Interact in professional manner with a wide variety of individuals at all levels (e.g. R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Customer Service, Customer Lab Services, Operations, and Marketing). * Providing product support through a variety of analytical chemistry and wet chemistry activities. * Developing analytical test methods, performing analysis (i.e. HPLC and GC) as needed. * Coordinating internal and/ or external sample request and analysis including those by external labs. Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or closely related field with minimum 5 years of related Quality experience. * Excellent problem solving skills needed. * Self-motivated and driven to independently accomplish department goals and objectives. * Must have excellent time management and organization skills, a high energy level, and a passion for quality. * Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment with changing priorities; ability to meet challenging timelines; strong prioritization skills. * Ability to think strategically and tactically, balancing these as workload changes. * Must interact well with others in a team environment. Ability to communicate the need to balance quality issues with production schedule needs to operations personnel. * Excellent attention to detail, and strong professional writing skills needed. * Proficiency with Microsoft applications Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint; ability to learn additional software applications, as the need arises – statistical software experiences a plus. * History with and/or skills related to Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (ISO, FSSC, BRC, SQF, AIB, HACCP, FAMI-QS, GMPs), including program development, conducting training, internal and supplier auditing experience is desired. * HPLC and GC experience and analytical instrument abilities desired. * Experience with process and / or analytical method validation. * Good written and verbal communication skills with a minimum English proficiency of Intermediate Mid as defined in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. * Some moderate lifting of chemicals, boxes and bags of product and standing for long periods of time may be required. * Some travel required (5%-10%) for conducting supplier audits.
