Pulmonary Function Therapist
Active Full Time Days Associates Degree Required RRT This position is responsible for the performance of pulmonary function studies. The incumbent provides instruction to both the patient and family related to procedures/disease processes and will assist in coordinating and educating department associates. This position is also accountable for the administration of comprehensive respiratory care services and for the documentation in the medical record of the therapy/procedures provided. The incumbent advises house staff on appropriate types of therapeutic modalities. This position reports to the Manager, Respiratory. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Requires an Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care or R.R.T. Requires graduation from a CoARC accredited respiratory care program. Requires knowledge of/experience in all phases of respiratory care involving adult and pediatric general and critical care. Requires participation in ongoing departmental education and in-servicing training. Requires participation in cross-training. Requires ability to apply complex technical knowledge in order to utilize all types of respiratory care equipment. Requires thorough knowledge of cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology and pulmonary pathology as it applies to all modes of respiratory care. Requires working knowledge of pharmacological agents that are commonly used in respiratory care. Requires knowledge of indications and contraindications associated with all modalities used in respiratory care. Requires strict adherence to all policies and procedures and ability to apply basic computer skills. Requires ability to communicate directions and to assess and facilitate the learning of patients/families; students and associates. Requires current Indiana license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Basic Life Support certification required within 1 month of hire or upon completion of department orientation. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to Patient Care Policy #PC 161. Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist by the N.B.R.C. is preferred.
