Principal Billing Specialist/Medicare & Medicaid Department: Patient Accounting Schedule: Full-time Shift: Day shift Hours: Job Details: - 3-5 years experience is required Review Medicare claim rejections on a daily basis to ensure accuracy of all information billed on claim form. Verify patient eligibility and demographic information utilizing Medicare/Medicaid websites, contacting insurance company and patients. Send and receive daily transmission of electronic claims for Medicare. Follow-up and review unpaid claims and rejected claims using workstation and compass reports. Review all denied claims and determine appropriate resolutions. identify denial patterns and notify Manager. Request medical documentation from HIS department. Appeal claims that are denied inappropriately by insurance provider. Correct and adjust Medical claims in FISS. Process claims in FISS that are in provider return location. Document all findings in Meditech and on spreadsheets. Review daily cash folder for accuracy in cash posting. Identify and prepare refund for Medicare and Medicaid accounts with credit balances. identify and re-bill late charges if necessary. Prepare contractual and administrative adjustments for review by Manager. Train new employees on Medicare and Medicaid processes. Answer phone calls and respond to telephone inquires by patients. Perform other duties as requested, including coverage within the department as needed. Requirements: Candidate must have leadership skills with capacity to work independently on multiple tasks. Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills. The Principal biller must also be able to work and communicate effectively with staff of 6, management, government representatives and patients. High school graduate, associate's degree highly preferred. 3-6 years of hospital Medicare/Medicaid billing experience, computer skills and ability to work from excel spreadsheets. Knowledge of ICD-9 and HCPC codes.
