We are looking for a Pharmaceutical inspector to conduct inspections, audits and investigations in relation to the control, use and misuse of medicines and poisons. You will need the experience to be able to liaise and negotiate with a diverse group of stakeholders on medicines and poisons matters. You will be required to work alone and as part of a small committed team to undertake appropriate action to minimise the misuse of medicines and poisons, enforce legislation and produce high quality reports and correspondence relating to these matters.
Eligibility/Other Requirements: Eligible for registration as a pharmacist. Current driver's licence.
Note: This is a permanent part-time vacancy at 29.5 hours per week.

1. Conduct under limited supervision inspections, audits and investigations in relation to the control, use and misuse of medicines and poisons.
2. Produce high quality reports on inspections, audits and investigations in relation to the control, use and misuse of medicines and poisons.
3. Undertake enforcement action (including prosecutions), as approved, for breaches of relevant legislation.
4. Take appropriate action to minimise the misuse of medicines and poisons.
5. Assist in the preparation of Ministerial correspondence and briefs as necessary.
6. Liaise with other government agencies, professional bodies, industry, community organisations and the public on medicines and poisons matters.
7. Other duties as directed by the Chief Pharmacist from time to time
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. High-level oral and written communication skills including negotiation skills and ability to use a computer to produce relevant reports and documents.
2. Well developed organisational skills and ability to work under limited supervision alone and in a team.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and procedures relating to the control and use of medicines and poisons and in particular those relating to the practice of pharmacy.
4. Knowledge of the legislative requirements of ACT and national medicines, poisons and therapeutic laws.
5. Sound research and analytical skills, particularly the ability to interpret legislation governing the control and use of medicines and poisons.
6. Experience in regulating the supply of medicines and poisons.
7. Demonstrated ability to represent the Department in Courts and before Tribunals and appear before investigative statutory committees and inquiries.
8. Demonstrated ability to consistently display commitment to, compliance with and leadership in high quality Customer Service, Workplace Diversity, Occupational Health & Safety and Industrial Democracy principles, practices and relevant legislation relating to these areas and an understanding of and commitment to the organisation's values.
