Job Duties:
In the Department of Neurology's outpatient clinics, work as a member of the Ambulatory Care team to provide excellent customer service to a fast paced clinic environment. Provide coverage to both general Neurology clinics located in Santa Monica. Under the direction of the Patient Care Manager, function as a Patient Coordinator providing services to physicians, nurses, office staff and other healthcare professionals to deliver medical care and assist with administrative needs in the clinic. Major duties include taking medical histories, preparing patients for examination, ordering medical supplies, authorizing drug refills as directed, telephone prescriptions to pharmacy, transporting medications from the pharmacy, arranging exam room instruments and equipment, tracking sample medications, taking patient vitals, performing blood draws, dispose of contaminated supplies, and change dressings. Additional duties include patient scheduling, handling phone calls, completing various patient related forms, facilitating the pre-authorization process, and carrying out specified additional assignments.
Job Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Experience in using MCCS appointment scheduling and Encounter Registration systems with speed and accuracy. Customer service skills to interact tactfully and with sensitivity with general public, personnel and culturally diverse patient populations. Working knowledge of medical terminology, patient financial codes, third party payers and managed care practices. Ability to work as an effective team member with minimal supervision. Knowledge of how to obtain needed information internally such as medical records, x-rays, test results, etc. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information. Ability to exhibit flexibility in adjusting to changing demands and requirements of clinic. Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively with frequent interruptions and distractions. Ability to attend to details and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision. Skills in taking and recording vital signs, height, weight, drugs and allergies. Skill in writing legibly, concisely and grammatically correct standard English. Ability to work extra or alternate hours as requested. Medical assistant certification or CNA certificate with phlebotomy certification and experience within past two years. Ability to maneuver items up to 60 pounds in weight with assistance in the work an effort to promote and maintain a healthy environment for our patients, visitors, and employees, UCLA Health System is a smoke-free site. Smoking is prohibited within the boundaries of all UCLA Health System owned, occupied, leased, and associated buildings and facilities. PREFERRED: Bilingual speaking skills. Current CPR training.
