Description:
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Codes/abstracts same day surgery (SDC), observation (OBS), emergency department (ED) and clinical (CLI) records, including the assignment of ICD-9-CM, E/M
and Procedure Categories(when applicable) and HCPCS/CPT codes (90% of time)
Codes/abstracts an average of 5 outpatient surgery records per hour; or 5 observation records per hour; or 20 ED records per hour; or 15 ED with E/M per hour;
or 30 clinical records perhour with 95% accuracy.
Initiates physician query where appropriate
Reviews all appropriate coding resources in order to remain current with knowledge
Utilizes both physician and nursing documentation in code assignment
Meets all educational requirements as stated in policy and as required by the CIA
Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Computer skills

Written and verbal communication skills
Extensive reimbursement systems knowledge (outpatient focus)
Knowledge of charge master functionality
EDUCATION
RHIT/RHIA eligible OR High School graduate or GED equivalent PLUS completed coursework in HumanAnatomy & Physiology
Medical Terminology;Pathophysiology/disease Processes; Into to Coding (including ICD-9 and CPT)
EXPERIENCE
One to three years acute care hospital outpatient coding.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE
RHIT/RHIA or coding certification preferred.
Must obtain AHIMA Entry Level Coding Certification within twelve months of employment
