NURSE MANAGER
I. NATURE OF WORK:
Responsible for Nursing Care at one ICF group home and coordinates and supervises the delivery of all medical, psychiatric, and nursing services at two other group homes.
II. TYPICAL ACTIVITIES, TASKS, ASSIGNMENTS:
A. Direct supervision and training of nurses.
B. Assist the Human Resource Department with the interviewing of nursing applicants.
C. Orient all newly hired nurses to our systems/procedures.
D. Teach OMRDD approved Medication Administration Certification Course to direct care staff.
E. Supervise direct care staff in the initial medication administration process and supervise medication certified staff in the medication administration recertification process as needed and as required.
F. Review consumers’ medical charts on an as needed basis to ensure compliance and organization.
G. Review/revise all medical and nursing forms as needed.
H. Provide direct nursing coverage in the ICF’s and IRA’s as needed.
I. Attend IDT and Administrative meetings as necessary.
J. Conduct medication room audit at each ICF and IRA as needed and as requested per Quality Assurance schedule. K. Meet weekly with the Agency Physician and keep him apprised of significant health care issues involving our consumers.
L. Hold formal nursing meetings at least quarterly.
M. Review all medical/nursing in-services and update as needed including the Medication Administration Course which should reflect OMRDD guidelines. Work with Training Coordinator in this area.
N. Act as liaison with other professionals in the community as needed, including Doctors, Nurses, and Teachers, PT and OT personnel and other agency providers of services to Community Based Services’ consumers.
O. Ensure completion of Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Nursing Updates for each consumer.
P. Act as liaison in health related areas with families of ICF and IRA consumers as needed.
Q. Assist in ensuring compliance with Employee Health Care Regulations by the administration and interpretation of PPD’s for all required staff.
R. Assist in the developing, monitoring and evaluating of medical/nursing programs and services in order to: 1. Follow up on the recommendations of the IDT. 2. Provide appropriate inservice training to all staff. 3. Follow up on state and federal regulations relating to health care.
S. Evaluation of ICF and IRA Nurses as needed. 1. Maintain confidential documentation of nursing employee issues. 2. Ensure appropriate and timely evaluations of staff. 3. Randomly observe/evaluate nursing staff performing their assigned duties. 4. Advise the Director of Residential Services of Nursing staff concerns as needed and as appropriate.
T. Follow established procedures and ensures the notification of supervisor and other team members of significant events. U. Ensure that ICF and IRA nurses function in accordance with house and agency policy and procedures. V. Provide supervision of all health care personnel and health care related clinicians including: Residence Nurses, Dietician/Nutritionist.
W. Development and/or approval of all health care related policies and procedures. Monitor and update Nursing Policies and Procedures in the Agency Manual on an annual basis, or as needed. X. Act as a Health Care representative at all residence surveys. Follow-up and correction of any deficiencies pertaining to health care issues from said surveys. Y. Ensure compliance of health care services with all federal, state and local regulations. III. RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS:
The Nurse Manager will:
A. Maintain a professional and cooperative attitude when interacting with other providers of services to the consumers, their families and community members. B. Maintain a leadership role with the structure of the agency, especially guiding the ICF and IRA nurses in the successful performance of their duties. C. Interact directly and cooperatively with all members of IDT as Health Care Representative.
IV. NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
The Nurse Manager will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Ability to use a computer. K. Prepare a rotating nurse on call schedule; assist with on call coverage as needed. Ability to carry a cell phone and be on call for the Agency. L. Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulations and laws as they pertain to heal care delivery in the OMRDD system. M. The interest and flexibility to expand knowledge and skills in related areas through reading material, seminars, lectures or courses in the field of developmental disabilities and management as it relates to the role of Nurse Manager.
VI. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The Nurse Manager must be licensed by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Nurse. The Nurse Manager must also have a Bachelors’ level degree in nursing or a related field. At least three years experience working with the developmentally disabled and at least one year of supervisory experience is required. Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required.
