Basic Functions: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist must be highly skilled in the performance of Nuclear Medicine Studies; including Diagnostic Imaging, Function Testing, Radiobioassay Testing and Therapeutic Procedures. Must be highly competent in the use of state-of-the-art technology: including, but not limited to, planar imaging, SPECT, SPECT/CT, gated SPECT, DEXA and demonstrate a willingness to learn advanced processing procedures. Must be able to perform radiopharmacy functions in accordance with State of Texas Bureau of Radiation Control specifications. Assist in the clinical aspect of educating students within the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program as well as visitors. Demonstrate competency in assessing patients through the use of age-specific criteria.
Scope: Responsible for all technical aspects of test performance, evaluation of technical quality, and supervision of subordinate technical personnel (e.g. students, Health Care Assistants, etc.) in the Nuclear Medicine Department. Essential functions are detailed below. Must possess manual dexterity and good visual acuity. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's Departmental policies and procedures.. Education: Required: An Associate degree in applied science or a certificate in Nuclear Medicine technology Preferred: A Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology
Experience: Required: Graduate from an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology Program with one year Clinical Experience at varying sites. Preferred: Two years imaging experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Each Nuclear Medicine Technologist must obtain and maintain renewal of:
' Licensure by the Texas Department of Health (CMRT). The employee must have this certification on the first day of work.
' Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine (ARRT-N) or certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (CNMT).
' New graduates have 1 year to obtain this certification If this is not obtained within this time frame, the employee will be terminated.
