MRI TECHNOLOGIST RADIOLOGY
POSITION OVERVIEW
The MRI Technologist performs and supervises all activities of Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures and assures accuracy in securing MRIs ordered by physicians for diagnostic purposes, and helps ensure that the MRI laboratory meets JCAHO and ARRT patient care standards. Works under the direct medical supervision of a Radiologist, and under the direct technical and administrative supervision of the Director of Radiology and the Assistant Director of Radiology.
The MRI Technologist operates equipment requiring concentration on details for extended periods of time; stocks an adequate inventory of supplies for the MRI laboratory when it is at Ocean Springs Hospital; performs quality assurance studies of MRI functions; and participates in Performance Improvement activities, when requested.
The MRI Technologist must be able to accept responsibility and authority; must be willing to work with the realization that errors may have serious consequences for patients; must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages; must exercise considerable tact in relating to Medical Staff and work closely with Staff Radiologists; and must be able to function under emergency or disaster conditions.
The MRI Technologist must be able demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages; promotes the SRHS philosophy of "Where Caring is a Tradition"; understands that the SRHS Corporate Compliance Program places the burden of proof on the provider to show that there was no intent to commit fraud; and must deal with departmental issues involving self or others in a forthright and cooperative manner.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology. Completion of a course in Magnetic Resonance Imaging preferred.
Experience : Prior experience is desired but not required.
Reports To : Director of Radiology; Assistant Director of Radiology; Radiologists.
Physical Demands: Requires frequent exercise of moderate motor ability in the operation of the medical equipment; this employee must be able to physically move patients into position for MRI studies, as well as move about freely and bend or stoop; must have good visual acuity for operating equipment.
