Description:
Major Position Responsibilities:
CLINICAL:
Collects data on the Patient Data Base as directed by the Charge Nurse.
Demonstrates proficiency in providing basic and unit specific patient care skills under the direction of the RN.
Completes documentation according to hospital/ unit specific policy and guidelines under the direction of the charge nurse.
Is able to respond appropriately and efficiently in emergency situations following the direction of the charge nurse.
Provides proactive attitude with patients in order to minimize the necessity of restraints and seclusion incidents.
Manages patient care and non-patient care time effectively.
Demonstrates courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with peers, patients and their families.
SAFETY/ LEGAL:
Recognizes patient and milieu problems and responds effectively.
Assist with minimizing patient use of restraints and seclusion.
Responds to safety and emergency situations including utilizing management of assaultive behavior.
Communicates information to appropriate staff in order to assure unit safety.
Recognizes hazards to patient and takes appropriate action to maintain a safe environment per hospital policy.
Recognizes emergency situations and reacts according to hospital procedure.
Practices good safety habits including proper body mechanics, use of equipment, and appropriate infection control procedures.
Completes medical center reporting requirements, proving necessary information when accidents do occur.
COMMITTEE / MEETINGS:
Attends and participates in meetings as necessary.
Attends staff meetings monthly and / or keeps current with information.
Participates in program development and activities for the Behavioral Health Unit.
POLICY / PATIENT ADVOCACY:
Assures the privacy, dignity, confidentiality and LPS regulations with all patients and their support system.
Demonstrates awareness of hospital and department policies assures compliance with and uses these as a basis for decision making for clinical issues.
Demonstrates as awareness of and sensitivity to patient’s.
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:
Participates in unit and hospital wide performance improvement.
STAFFING:
Demonstrates flexibility regarding staffing patterns and resolution of conflicts related to staffing decisions.
SELF GROWTH:
Demonstrates initiative in continual profession development by attending community and medical center in-services.
COMMUNICATION:
Communicates patient problems, concerns in an appropriate manner to appropriate lines of authority quickly and clearly.

Qualifications:
Certified nursing assistant preferred
Minimum of two years inpatient psychiatric experience.
Education:
Graduate of a Bachelors Program with emphasis in psychology preferred
Licenses: NA
Certifications:
Current basic life support certification., If CNC, need certification, Management of Assaultive Behavior ( required )
