GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:


Performs medical laboratory procedures to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.


PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS

*Performs all laboratory procedures in all departments within CAMC lab.
*
Demonstrates proficiency in operation and maintenance of all laboratory instruments.
*
*Performs venipunctures , capillary collections, and arterial punctures with minimal trauma to patients.
*
*Utilizes departmental computer system to report and maintain patient results accurately and in a timely fashion.
*
*Evaluates quality control material and results to monitor instrument performance.
*
Establishes proper communication with medical staff, co-workers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.
*
Answers telephone calls regarding patient care, testing, and patient results accurately and courteously.
*
*Participates in annual proficiency testing challenges as assigned.
*
Participates in departmental quality improvement plan as assigned.
*
Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment and laboratory areas as necessary.
*
Notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service techs regarding instrument issues.
*
Keeps laboratory properly supplied.
*
Increases professional growth by participating in continuing education and reading professional journals.
*
Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
*
Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of an accredited Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technician
program with current registration from ASCP, AMT, ISCLT, or equivalent required.
