Medical Laboratory Technologist Category: IT Type: Part-Time SCA Description: Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) Part-Time The Medical Laboratory Technologist handles test requests, identifies and resolves inconsistent test results and the occurrence of events and takes appropriate action. The MLT records results through a variety of data entry modes into laboratory computer systems, and retrieves information from the computer upon physician requests. They interact directly with patient care physicians in discussing interpretation of test results when requested. The MLT reviews daily quality control data and communicates problems to the technical specialist or section supervisor. They recognize and solve quality assurance problems. The MLT also troubleshoots instruments, test methods, and processes correcting and recording the problem. They seek and use MTF safety information necessary for proper handling of infectious agents and take appropriate action to contain spills and perform decontamination procedures. The MLT remains current on universal precautions in regards to the regular exposure to contaminated material from patients with contagious diseases. The MLT will be required to keep up with health standards required by the policy established by the government. Requirements: Must have at least one year exp as a medical laboratory technologist to perform all the advanced technical work in one of the sections: Immunology/Serology, Hematology, Microbiology, Chemistry and Blood Bank. Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in performing specialized and technically demanding tests in relation to diagnostic purposes or are in conjunction with clinical research problems. Education: Completion of a degree as a medical technologist or equivalent is required.
