A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical phases of tests covering nearly the full range of laboratory analysis, and stores specimens according to establish protocols. MLTs recognize abnormal or unexpected results, initiate follow-up or corrective actions within established parameters with limited supervision. Conduct quality control, equipment maintenance, quality assurance, calibration of instruments, and troubleshooting equipment. May participate in correlation and/or validation studies on new or current instruments. MLTs operate instruments that are often computer- integrated and networked and use computerized information systems. Acts as resource for other laboratory and health care providers. Complies with appropriate laboratory safety practices, laws, regulations and policies. Qualifications:
A graduate of an approved two-year program in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology or have equivalent knowledge as defined by Federal/Georgia State regulations &/or certification/licensure as Technologist, MLT(ASCP), MLT (AMT), or equivalent registry recognized by the State of Georgia. At least 3-5 years of laboratory experience in moderate or high complexity testing preferred. Meets CLIA regulation 493.1489, GA 290-5-29 (4) or is a student in a medical laboratory technology program leading to a AS degree and meets the Georgia Medical Laboratory Technologist regulations.
