Job Description
The Medical Information Specialist is responsible for establishing strategic medical information services and the information needs (e.g. literature searches, articles, web searching, alerts) for the Medical Information team.
1. Serves as the focal and centralized point of information resource needs (e.g. literature search requests, article requests, web searching) for Medical Information.
2. Manages and organizes a database system for the dissemination of current awareness literature; conducts and distributes results of current awareness searches.
3. Creates and maintains system of access to e-journals
4. Manages document delivery requests and maintains record of order and receipt.
5. Coordinates and maintains product specific literature databases.
6. Manages journal subscriptions and coordinates purchasing of books as well as reference materials in other formats
7. Manages budgetary aspects and copyright maintenance of information services. Ensures cost-effectiveness of services; coordinates use of resources available through Baxter's IMC.
8. Creates and distributes news or article alerts and supports new product development efforts globally.
9. Manage electronic label copy files for Medical Information
10. Review documents in Medical Information and provide medical writing expertise.
11. Assumes other duties as assigned by the Senior Director, Global Medical Information.
Job Requirements
•An advanced scientific degree with a Master's of Science or above in library and information science preferred.
•Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of information technology and regulations affecting the pharmaceutical industry.
•Track record of establishing innovative medical/pharmaceutical strategic information services.
•Knowledge of literature databases and advanced search methodologies
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Team-oriented
•Self motivated with exceptional follow through.
•Effective interpersonal skills to work with all levels of customer/Baxter organization and ability to work well with team members.
•Knowledge of copyright regulations
•Knowledge of FDA regulations for medical communications.
