Through the utilization of applied theories, principles and practices of clinical laboratory technology, the medical technologist accurately performs and reports a wide range of routine and complex analyses in all sections of the clinical laboratory in order to provide data which will assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment. Develops and conducts research into new technologies, writes and updates procedures as needed. Supervises and teaches other personnel. Assumes responsibilities for first-line supervision of a section of the laboratory on a temporary or part-time basis as delegated. Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college / university and successful completion of NAACLS accredited Medical Technology Program OR MLT or CLA certification and a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college / university, including 16 semester hours of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry) and one semester of mathematics, and four years of acceptable full time clinical laboratory experience. At least two years must be under the supervision of an appropriately certified medical scientist and certified medical technologist, OR Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college / university, including 16 semester hours of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours in chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry) and one semester of mathematics, and five years of acceptable full time clinical laboratory experience. At least two years must be under the supervision of an appropriately certified medical scientist and a certified medical technologist. Has passed MT (ASCP) or CLA (NCA) level certification examination offered by one of the professional societies.
