I. POSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed Vocational Nurse, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse is responsible for identifying the needs of each patient and assisting in the planning and the delivering of patient care to meet those needs. He/she collects data, participates in planning, executes interventions in accordance with the care plan or treatment plan, contributes to the evaluation of individualized interventions related to the care plan or treatment plan. The Licensed Vocational Nurse, after appropriate educational preparation, is capable of expanded scope of practice in intravenous therapy. He/she may handle human blood and other potentially infectious and/or hazardous materials, which may result in possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or harmful elements. This position may be responsible for the basic assessment, treatment and care of the patient in the following age groups: adolescent, adult and geriatric. The Licensed Vocational Nurse reports to the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse and Head Nurse and is accountable to the Director of Med/Surg Services. II. QUALIFICATIONS: A. Current California Vocational Nurse License B. BCLS required (within 30 days of employment) C. Minimum 1-year experience in an acute care facility preferred D. Satisfactory completion of LVN Board Certification for intravenous therapy required E. Has full command (verbal and written) of the English sesses the physical abilities, including heavy lifting, and perceptive acuity, e.g., visual, hearing, to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions
