Exercise Assistant (CNA preferred) for Physical/Occupational Therapy departments
Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital's rehabilitation department is looking to supplement their staff by adding a casual Exercise Assistant to our team of professionals. The Exercise Assistant (EA) plays an important role as an aide to the Physical, Occupational and/or Recreational therapists by performing patient care duties, patient transport, information processing, department cleaning and stocking, as well as assisting with activities that support the operation of the department. The ideal candidate has some patient care experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, experience working within realm of physical or occupational therapy would be a major benefit as well. This position will have various duties, including working on the Rehab Unit, and Cardiac Therapy as well. This is a casual, as needed position, no scheduled hours but we anticipate 1-2 days per week. This person will fill in schedule working mostly day shift, with some weekend responsibility as well.
In this role, the exercise assistant has the following duties:
Transports patients to and from therapy for scheduled therapies.
Performs patient set ups for treatment under the direct supervision of the therapist.
Assists therapists with implementation of treatment procedures.
Monitors patient exercise after being set up by the therapist.
Occasionally assists patients with ADL's (dressing, ambulation, toileting).
Performs fabrication of adaptive equipment for patient use, such as: sewing of walker bags, adapting clothing, making alterations and construct equipment to suit patient's needs.
Enters treatment charges into computer in a timely and accurate fashion.
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent is preferred
Experience in a health care setting is required (CNA, Rehab Technician, Exercise Aide)
Prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant is strongly preferred
Prior experience supporting Physical, Occupational, or Recreation Therapists is preferred
Medical Terminology completion preferred
