Job Summary:


Responsible fordirect patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction and high quality clinical outcomes. Performs diagnostic transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, peripheral and abdominal vascular exams on patients in asafe,accurate and timely manner. Maintains accurate documentation of results and reports to physicians as directed. Involved with day to day operations of the department including quality of care, physician interaction, scheduling, staff schedule modification, cross-functional training, staff education; provides input related to day to day operations, equipment, issues affecting department, and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, including department policy and procedure development and implementation and compliance. Occasional travel is required.
Essential Duties:

1. Performs diagnostic transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, peripheral and abdominal vascular exams on patients in asafe,accurate and timely manner.
a. Ability to operate mobile ultrasound equipment in all areas of the hospital.
b. Identifies each patient and reviews physician orders to ensure the exam ordered is appropriate for the clinical diagnosis.
c. Provides education to the patient and family by providing an explanation of the exam.
d. Positions patient and performs exams according to established protocols; modifies routine procedures appropriate for patient condition.
e. Selects proper ultrasound equipment settings and gains.
f. Ensures proper patient and technologist identification on images. Completes necessary documentation to complete the exam.
g. Ensures accurate and timely results. Notifies physician if results require immediate attention.
2. Maintains ultrasound equipment. Maintains echo/vascular work area.
3. Participates in on-call, if required on rotational basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Participates with day to day operations of the department including quality of care, physician interaction, scheduling, staff schedule modification, cross-functional training, staff education; provides input related to day to day operations, equipment, issues affecting department, and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


* Knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy and physiology. Desire to always improve knowledge base.
* Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
* Skill in developing and maintaining quality assurance.
* Ability to perform required computer tasks with digital equipment and PACS system.
* Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
* Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and families in accordance with HIPPA regulations.
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages in a manner which promotes a comfortable exam environment.
* Willingly shares expertise with team members and assists in the orientation of new staff and students.
* Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
* Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices.
* Consistently seeks ways to improve work procedures and methods to increase effectiveness and efficiency in the organization.
* Ability to solve problems and apply mathematical concepts.


Education/Experience:

Associates of Applied Science degree plus completion of course in ultrasonic technology is required. One year of experience as a sonographer is preferred. Current registry as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) with the American Registry of Diagnositc Sonographers is required, additional certification in Echocardiography (RDCS) is desired*.



Must obtain RDCS registry within one year of employment
