Director of Surgical Services - NURSE: OR / SURGICAL SVCS

The Director of Surgical Services is responsible, in cooperation with the Administrator for surgical Services, for the planning, implementation and coordination of all daily operations within the Operating Room, ASU, PACU, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing. This responsibility includes, but is not exclusive to, directing and supervising the personnel and delivery of care within these departments, managing and coordinating administrative issues within the respective departments and the progression of the surgical patients throughout the day, and acting as liaison between the department's staff, the physicians, and the Administrator for Surgical Services. Responsible for quality improvement, productivity, and patient/physician satisfaction goals and objectives established by upper management The individual in this position must be an exemplary nurse who is able to provide the safest, most effective nursing care to all surgical services patients utilizing the nursing process.

The Director of Surgical Services must be capable of interacting and collaborating with all members of the health care team. Must have the ability to work productively and cooperatively with community resources. Good interpersonal skills are required, due to the frequent contact with individuals from outside the departments. The Director of Surgical Services oversees the management of many expensive pieces of equipment and instrumentation. It is her responsibility to ensure that all members of the staff take proper care with the equipment and instruments. Physician requests for equipment and/or products are often made to the Manager. It is his/her responsibility to make those needs known, so that they can be addressed. It is part of his/her responsibility to use the time available to the best advantage. The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of his/her assigned patients. He/she is responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel. This position requires an intimate knowledge of both departmental and hospital-wide policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of nursing care. Interpretative skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations along with management and supervisory skills are inherent in the position. The ability to retrieve, communicate, or otherwise present information in a written, auditory, and/or visual fashion is essential. The primary method to express or exchange ideas is through the spoken word. Written telephone, and manual dexterity skills are required for this position.

Credential Requirements:

Current Florida Nursing License. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support card (by the completion of the ninety day probationary period). Clinical experience and credentials consistent with years worked as an operating room nurse and years worked as a Registered Nurse. Knowledge of JCAHO accreditation standards.

Education Requirements:

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. BSN required. Current licensure/registration in the State of Florida

Experience Requirements:

Minimum experience with running at least 5 OR rooms (as the facility has 8). Previous OR Director experience preferred. CNOR PREFERRED.
