Job Description
Acts as a consultant, clinical expert and educator in a multi-disciplinary setting. Ensures that the optimal and appropriate nutrition support is provided in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. May provide nutritional support services to extended care facilities and other nutritional care providers
1. Provides quantitative and qualitative nutrition assessment. Establishes nutrition care plan of patients receiving enteral or parenteral nutrition. Communicates nutrition assessment findings to healthcare team. Participates effectively in interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
2. Implements nutrition therapy care plan, including consultation with healthcare team as appropriate, writing and/or obtaining orders for enteral or parenteral formulations, and placement of nasal bridles.
3. Monitors and evaluates nutrition care plan. Adjusts regimens on basis of response to therapy, clinical condition, and nutritional parameters. Completes reassessments as appropriate, and documents results of evaluation and recommendations in the medical record.
4. Provides continuity of care as patient�s transition to the home setting. Provides and documents appropriate nutrition education to patients and family. Monitors and intervenes appropriately for home therapies as necessary.
5. Demonstrates professionalism by mentoring other staff and students in the field of dietetics, maintaining knowledge of current literature and research findings, contributing to the development of new knowledge, and participating in quality improvement activities to promote excellence in nutrition care outcomes.
6. Demonstrates fiscal accountability by selecting the most cost and time effective product or regimen when appropriate and by evaluating actions/decisions in regard to cost effectiveness for supplies, time utilization and team resources.
Note: This position may require completion of certification by the NBNSC as a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician within one year of hire.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited American Dietetic Association program obtained through an accredited institution. Intermountain verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment.
- Registered by the Commission of Dietetic Registration.
- Current Utah license as a Certified Dietitian
- One or more years experience as a registered dietitian
- Computer knowledge of word processing programs and nutrition software
Physical Requirements
- Hearing/Listening, Manual Dexterity, Seeing, Speaking
Preferred Qualifications
- Member of American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition or member of specialty dietetic practice group
