Job Summary:
The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint Program of the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene responsible for promoting the health of over one (1) million school children enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non 'public schools in the New York City. Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling, health education, referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment. OSH has been the provider of public health services in the schools for 100 years.

Reporting to the Director of the Management Information System (MIS) unit, the Computer Specialist (software), Level II will provide data and development support to School Health Programs pertaining to the MIS unit's requirements:

The computer specialist (Software), Level II will be part of a development team and participate in programming new modules to existing applications, developing new solutions and applications, and maintaining current applications based on program needs. Development will be primarily in Microsoft . A strong database back ground in MS SQL Server 2005 or 2008 is required. Knowledge of relational database design, optimizing T-SQL, triggers and data warehousing is required.

The preferred candidate will have experience in data warehousing and OLAP cube design and SQL server reporting services. The candidate will participate and be primary contributor on data warehouse initiatives. will be the front end platform to generate reports from the data warehouse either via designing DOTNET applications or manual reporting using SQL Server. The candidate will document business and technical specifications.

Preferred Skills

Minimum three years experience hands-on application development, including browser applications, with hands-on development in a production environment with Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008, IIS, XML and Web Services
- 2 years OLAP and Data warehousing experience.
- Experience designing with SQL server reporting services
- Minimum 3 years experience with web application development.
- Experience with Crystal Reports/Enterprise a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze and understand complex business processes.
- Create and maintain technical and user system documentation.
Experience Required:
1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration,
systems programming, data communications, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or

2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in (1) above, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to (1) or (2) above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in (2) above on the basis that 60 semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. A masters degree in computer science or a related computer field may be substituted for one year of the required experience in (1) or (2) above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory full-time experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.
