Position: Clinical Nurse Specialist - Medical Oncology/Wound Care Site: Princess Margaret Hospital Department: Nursing Hours: 37.5 Hours/Week Status: Temporary Full-time - Six (6) Months, with the possibility of an extension Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), a teaching hospital of the University of Toronto, has achieved an international reputation as a global leader in cancer care and is considered one of the top comprehensive cancer treatment and research centres in the world. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Medical Oncology/Wound Care is a consultant that demonstrates expert skill and advanced level of clinical competence in the management of chronic wounds and wounds related to cancer and cancer treatment. The CNS works collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team involved in the plan of care of ambulatory and in-patients receiving cancer surgery, systemic therapy or radiation at Princess Margaret Hospital. The CNS in Medical Oncology/Wound Care is also a member of the UHN Wound and Skin Clinical Leadership Team. Additional responsibilities of the CNS in Medical Oncology are development, participation and coordination of education related to the assessment and management of symptoms the medical oncology patient experiences due to cancer treatments. This includes but is not limited to advanced symptom assessment and management of physical symptoms such as mucositis, complex chronic wounds, malignant wounds and radiation skin reactions and psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression etc. Performing or participating in research and leadership activities including being an active member of hospital committees and contributing to program goals and the balanced scorecard at PMH and UHN are all fundamental to the CNS role. Contribution in the advancement of Oncology Nursing practice at the local, provincial, national or international level is encouraged. The emphasis on each of these separate aspects of the role may vary over time in response to evolving priorities. Qualifications: * Completion of a Masters degree program in Nursing or recognized equivalent. * Up to three (3) years of in the specialty of wound and skin care in an acute care setting preferred. * Completion of the International Interprofessional Wound Care Course (IIWCC) preferred * Experience in nursing research methodology * Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution * Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario * Certification in Oncology Nursing preferred * Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) and other organizations relevant to the role preferred * Knowledge of data management programs * Effective verbal and written communication skills * Effective interpersonal and customer services skills * Excellent organization and time management skills * Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills * Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills * Program planning and evaluation methodology skills * Commitment to collaborative practice * Ability to work effectively independently and under stressful conditions * Ability to work in a self directed manner * Ability to manage and prioritize multiple demands * Ability to utilize information technology * Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support required
