Clinical Nurse Specialist - Emergency Services Department: Nursing Practice, Education & Research Schedule: Days Shift: Primarily days w/flexibility to meet off shift or w/e needs Hours: 40 Job Summary: Functions within the Department of Nursing Practice, Education & Research as a Clinical Nurse Specialist who demonstrates clinical expertise in a specialized area of practice. Functions in the areas of clinical practice, education, and research, in order to improve the quality of patient care and increase staff competence. Supports the purpose of the Department of Nursing Practice, Education & Research in support of Elliot Health System's overall mission. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Nursing Practice & Education and within established Elliot Hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions: Demonstrates clinical expertise in area of specialty. Models excellence in nursing practice through the utilization of advanced concepts in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of perceived, actual or potential problems that occur in a variety of patient populations. Functions as a facilitator and innovator for state-of-the-art nursing care with direct involvement in implementing and evaluating new techniques and equipment for safety, cost-effectiveness, and benefits related to quality care. Assists the clinical staff in providing care to select patients based on identified patient needs. Assesses individual patient care and staff development needs through periodic rounds and communication with nursing staff and other health team members. Assists and provides direction to nursing staff with clinical decision making and priority setting Participate in ongoing evaluation of organization-wide learning needs that includes: · Needs assessment · Emerging trends · Sentinel Event reviews · Current and new regulations · Learning needs identified by staff and leadership · Patient outcomes and practice patterns Utilizes a variety of educational modalities to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment. · Implements innovative technologies and strategies to strengthen critical thinking and problem solving abilities of the learner. Coordinates and/or provides educational activities, which may involve other staff and/or disciplines. · This includes design, implementation, and evaluation of the educational program. Collaborates with colleagues in the nursing leadership team in order to identify and plan for training needs. Serves as a resource to nursing staff, nursing students, and other health care personnel in the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to nursing knowledge. Education: Master's degree in Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist preferredExperience:Five years' clinical experience with a specialty focus, teaching experience preferred. Licensure:Current registration in the State of New Hampshire as a Registered Nurse. Certification: Possession of the following certificates are required: Basic Life Support (BLS); Pediatric Life Support (PALS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), TNCC certification required. TNCC instructor qualification preferred. Certified Emergency Nursing (CEN) preferred. *hj*
