CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST 2 MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST MED LAB Requisition Number: 29695 Department: Pathology Schedule: Full Time Shift: Evening Hours: 1:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Work Location: Pathology 313 Job Details: - Bachelor's - 1 year Advanced Technology Laboratory - Clinical Lab Scientist 3 will also be considered for this position. Performs a variety of HIV specialty laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures. Weekend and holiday rotations required. One (1) year PCR experience preferred. Education: BS degree in medical technology; MT internship or one (1) year equivalent clinical lab experience or course work specific to the discipline. Work requires formal educational background in biology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology and microbiology normally acquired through completion of a two or four year post secondary school program in clinical laboratory technology. and/or equivalent education and training in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, or related field Knowledge: Knowledge of clinical laboratory tests and equipment. Skills: Ability to analyze and operate technical and scientific equipment, perform a range of tests and developmental assessments with the highest degree of accuracy and to correlate normal tests results in a healthy state to anomalous test results and the presence of disease. Ability to perform successfully despite sudden deadlines and changing priorities, maintaining personal composure in high stress situations. Ability to exercise initiative and judgement. Ability to maintain effective communication skills within the department and with other health care professionals. Ability to work independently, accurately determining appropriate procedures and methods to obtain test results. Ability to troubleshoot problems with equipment or test methods. Ability to assist in the training of new employees, students and physicians in laboratory methodology. Ability to use and understand computer system reference materials and Laboratory Standard Operating Procedure Manuals. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.: Certification in Medical Technology, MLT/MT, ASCP or a nationally recognized professional organization is preferred. Work Experience: This role (CLS-2) is intended for individuals with less than 2 years of experience and for all BS/MT and equivalent degree candidates without the equivalent certification/ internship or (one year) equivalent clinical lab experience or course work specific to the discipline. This role is intended for individuals with less than 2 years of experience and for all BS/MT and equivalent degree candidates without the equivalent certification/registration. Promotion to this position is automatic for AA degree certified/registered CLS 1's if a rating of (2) proficient or greater is achieved on the second annual performance evaluation. For this level, the AA degreed employee must demonstrate certification accepted by the Department of Pathology.
