Primary Function:
& Major Responsibilities Responsible for the accurate and timely performance of routine and complex laboratory procedures.

This position is responsible for running hematology, coagulation, and urine testing in a busy lab that performs testing for in-house patients as well as testing for many HML clients. The candidate will need good communication skills, good problem solving skills, be able to handle a variety of workload conditions.

Performs and evaluates diagnostic testing to provide accurate and reliable laboratory results.

Treats abnormal results according to policies and procedures.

Performs computer and clerical functions accurately to ensure accurate test ordering and reporting of patient results.

Performs and documents maintenance and troubleshooting procedures on laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper operation.

Reviews, follows and understands established laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures.

Performs specimen collection and processing to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing while maintaining patient dignity, comfort and confidentiality.

Complies with laboratory Safety and Infection Control policies to ensure a safe work environment.

Participates in the overall operations of the section(s) and department.

Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.

Performs all other related duties as requested.
Qualifications: Education:
Baccalaureate degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or HEW accreditation, or an appropriate Biological, Chemical, or Physical Sciences degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ASCP or NCA eligible.
Clinical Laboratory Technicians are also eligible to apply.

Experience:
Two years of hematology experience preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic understanding of hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis procedures and instruments.
Comprehensive knowledge of routine and complex laboratory procedures, techniques, and instruments;
Ability to perform work requiring manual dexterity;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Good communication skills;
Good organizational skills;
Ability to work independently;
Ability to assess, identify, and address the special needs of patients appropriate to their age;
Ability to stand for majority of working shift.
