Clinical Lab Scientist Specialist Microbiology Salary Starting between: $35.53-38.99-42.45/Hr. Shift: Variable Appointment: 100% Filing deadline: 6/25/2010 Summary:Performs non-repetitive technically complicated laboratory procedures or tasks with an emphasis on Quality Assurance and Quality Control in the Special Chemistry section with involvement in other areas of chemistry such as Toxicology and Rapid Response Laboratory. Performs the full range of duties from specimen procurement through data analysis and reporting, in order to provide data for use in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and/or research of human disease. Participates in teaching programs, training, staff development, troubleshooting instruments and methods, compliance, safety, working on special computer projects, and development of new assays. o Required: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Must possess a valid California Clinical Lab Scientist License Must be willing to work variable shifts and overtime as required Must be willing to testify in court regarding testing activities if subpoenaed Two years applicable experience o Desired: Working knowledge of UCI Policies and practices o Lab Science Accurately and efficiently performs automated procedures and a variety of manual procedures *Accurately and efficiently prepares patient data *Accurately handles/processes/tests specimens according to appropriate protocol *Accurately maintains required records of laboratory tests conducted, preparing reports as required Accurately performs laboratory inventory control and other clerical duties as needed *Accurately performs non-repetitive technically complex procedures or tasks in a specialized area of the lab at least 50% of the time Appropriately assists in the training of new staff, students, and co-workers, as needed or required Appropriately instructs others in the performance of new/modified procedures *Appropriately investigates specific procedural modifications and unexpected test results to determine reason for non-conformance to established patterns Appropriately maintains compliance with all protocols, policies, procedures and regulatory agencies' requirements *Appropriately provides quality control surveillance at various levels *Appropriately serves as technical resource to others as needed *Appropriately utilizes knowledge of physiological significance of test results Assists in laboratory research and design efforts *Correctly performs mathematical calculations Effectively assists in the development and evaluation of procedures *Efficiently and accurately uses appropriate techniques Efficiently and appropriately collects and extrapolates data on new methodologies Efficiently coordinates quality control efforts for the division Ensures lab instruments are functioning properly and appropriately handles repairs Operates, maintains and troubleshoots specialized laboratory equipment *Oversees the work of support staff to ensure that proper procedures and techniques are followed o Customer Service *UNDERSTANDING
