CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN-UNIT SUPPORT Department: Peds Hem/Onc 106332 Schedule: Active Part Time Shift: Nights Hours: Job Details: This position is responsible for providing a combination of unit clerical duties and direct patient care duties as needed on the Patient Care Unit. The incumbent ensures that accurate and complete information is completed to facilitate coordination and communication between physician, unit staff, and ancillary departments. The incumbent performs clerical duties associated with supporting the Patient Care Unit and provides assigned direct patient care duties under the supervision of the registered LIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES * Requires Certification as Nursing Assistant by State of Indiana. * Requires completion of Medical Assistant or Medical Secretary classes. * Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology. * Requires clerical/secretarial experience in a health care field or general office. * Requires knowledge and skill in accurately entering physicians' orders into outpatient center's computerized database. * Requires ability to apply IU Health personnel policies and procedures. * Requires up-to-date knowledge of changes. * Requires excellent communication skills. * Requires constant mental alertness and the ability to withstand a high level of tension and stress. * Requires ability to maintain concentration when subjected to frequent and varied interruptions and variable noise levels. * Requires ability to exercise judgment and initiative in the resolution of problems encountered. * Requires knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served. * Requires ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within limited time for completion. * Requires knowledge of procedures; equipment and standards related to patient care activities. * Requires knowledge of principles of infection control. * Requires ability to perform physically demanding; repetitious movements. * Requires ability to read and perform basic math. * Requires ability to organize tasks and attend to details. * Requires ability to observe patients and report changes to RN. * Requires knowledge of principles of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques. * Requires ability to maintain accurate charts and records. * Requires ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
