Ministry Good Samaritan Hospital, Merrill Wisconsin is looking for a Part Time Certified Nursing Assistant for the Medical/Surgical unit.  A member of Ministry Health Care System, Ministry Good Samaritan Health Care Center is a primary care hospital which has been serving the health care needs of Lincoln County since 1923.  It is a primary care hospital providing inpatient care and surgery, outpatient surgery, oncology services, spiritual services, extended care, a full range of therapy, radiology and laboratory services as well as dialysis, emergency and walk-in clinic services. We pride ourselves in putting Patients first in everything we do.
 
The Medical Surgical Unit is a 25 bed unit. Certified Nursing Assistants work 8 hour shifts. The unit is also supported with Registered Nurses and Health Unit Coordinators. The unit also has Hospitalists on staff Monday-Friday to care for our patients. With the new addition of the Ministry Medical Group to the hospital, the unit will continue to see growth.

 

The Certified Nursing Assistant will:

• Demonstrate competency and safety in providing direct care to patients: e.g., personal hygiene, elimination, and nutritional activities, responds to patient call lights and takes appropriate action, assists with the ambulation, transfers and use of assistive mobility devices.


• Complete unit specific annual competencies. Seek ways to improve knowledge and skills through education. Seek out learning opportunities.


• Data collection and recording is to be accurate, timely, and complete.


• Recognize occurrences of life-threatening emergency situations and take appropriate effective action.


• Written and verbal communication with registered nurse/licensed practical nurse are to be accurate and timely. (e.g. changes in patient condition, vital signs, patient/significant other concern/requests).


• Utilize appropriate channels for communication.


• Prioritize the delivery of nursing care using time and resources effectively.


• Demonstrate positive telephone communication skills.


• In collaboration with the RN/LPN, organize, adjust, and complete daily work assignments within an appropriate time frame based on changing unit needs and patient acuity levels.


• Demonstrate flexibility in response to unexpected changes in work volume, emergencies, staffing, or scheduling changes.


• Seek ways to improve knowledge and skills, e.g., continuing education, career advancement.


• Initiate, coordinate, and communicate collaborative efforts among health team members to show a comprehensive picture of the patient. (i.e., report, referrals, discharge planning)


• Actively participate in or support multidisciplinary quality improvement activities.


• Promote a cohesive environment and interacts effectively and professionally with peers and other department personnel; e.g. conflict resolution, communication of concerns, positive problem resolution.


• Demonstrate expertise and enthusiasm in teaching others.

This is a a part time position scheduled for 20 hours per week. The person will work 8 hour variable shifts with every other weekend.
