Every person needs the support of others but we look for very special people to support individuals with intellectual disabilities, brain injury and other complex needs. As a Brain Injury Specialist with REM Iowa you'll be one of those special people.

REM Iowa is seeking a Brain Injury Specialist to join our team as we continue to grow are brain injury program and services. For REM Iowa and The MENTOR Network, a Brain Injury Specialist is critical to our success and exemplifies the wonderful mission driven work we do here every day.

Position Summary:
The Brain Injury Specialist will provide brain injury clinical support, consultation and training; support regional and cross-regional pre-admission coordination as needed; and provide education, training and post-admission consultation to programs serving individuals with brain injuries in both home and residential settings. This position will be located in the Des Moines area or in East/Central Iowa. The position will require routine travel throughout the designated region.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provides clinical support to individuals with brain injury when requested, insuring staff supporting these individuals have resources to develop high quality services.
  • Provides clinical support and consultations to regional staff for individuals being considered for placement through preadmission screenings and on-site visits.
  • Designs, develops and revises programs for individuals with brain injuries.
  • Develops training resources for regional staff enabling technical skill building in all areas related to quality service delivery to individuals with brain injuries.
  • Established and builds networking resources through assigned contacts and meetings.
  • Develops relationships with Brain Injury Regional Contacts routinely soliciting feedback on needs as well as opportunities.
  • Promotes brain injury services through communication with individuals, families, funding sources, and community members about services available through our organization.
  • Conducts and/or provides support for training and curriculum development related to brain injury, addressing needs identified by regional offices or management.
  • Performs other related duties and activities as required.


Qualifications
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field, Master's preferred
  • Three to five years experience related to brain injury services and programming
  • Experience working with individuals with brain injuries and high need unwanted behaviors, preferred
  • Certified Brain Injury Specialist in good standing with AACBIS or have the ability to qualify for AACBIS certification
  • Certified Brain Injury Trainer a plus
  • Knowledge and understanding of positive proactive behavior intervention principles, program development and monitoring techniques
  • Experience in the areas of employee training, public speaking and facilitation of adult learners
  • Skilled in written and oral communication
  • Valid driver's license and driving record that meets company standards
  • Reliable transportation for on the job use, valid car registration and auto insurance
  • Successful clearance of required background checks
  • Ability to travel
