Job Title Assoc Director, Public Affairs Location US-MA-Cambridge Job Category Corporate Requisition Number 12669BR Job Description The Associate Director, Public Affairs, will be responsible for public relations and communication initiatives to support Biogen Idec's marketed multiple-sclerosis (MS) therapies with particular emphasis on TYSABRI. The position will report into the Director, Public Affairs, who oversees communication initiatives and public relations activities for the company's marketed products and pipeline programs. This Associate Director will be based at the company's headquarters, which are currently in Cambridge but will be relocating to Weston by July 1, but expected to spend two-three days a week in Wellesley, where the commercial team is based. Primary Responsibilities . Developing and implementing strategic and creative PR campaigns to support and help drive TYSABRI marketing and sales goals . Developing communications strategy and implementing plans around key TYSABRI and AVONEX milestones, such as data presentations at medical meetings and publications in major peer-reviewed medical journals . Developing competitive blunting strategies to ensure share of voice for Biogen Idec's marketed MS products . Conceiving and executing on ideas to build and drive company's reputation and position as a leader in MS . Developing and implementing crisis preparedness and response plans for TYSABRI and AVONEX . Proactively building relationships with key US health, consumer, business and trade media to raise visibility for the company's MS products and leadership . Serving as primary point of contact for US media on news and stories related to the company's MS products . Responsible for managing the PR agency working on TYSABRI and serving as primary point of contact . Coordinating closely with Global Neurology Marketing and US Marketing teams for TYSABRI and AVONEX Qualifications . Minimum 8-10 years in public relations, including agency or corporate experience . Strong background in product PR campaigns . Media-relations experience, particularly with consumer, health and trade media . Excellent strategic thinking and tactical execution skills . Excellent written, verbal and leadership communication skills . Ability to work closely and collaboratively with counterparts in neurology marketing, as well as other members of the public affairs department, in a time-sensitive environment . Ability to handle and manage issues and crisis scenarios . Ability to manage outside PR agencies . Strong initiative and ability to multi-task Education Degree: BA/BS Academic Disciplines: Liberal Arts or Marketing Communications
