Assistant Nurse Manager Date Opened: 7/21/2010 Department: Labor & Delivery Category: Management Type: Full-Time Shift: Noc Description: Position Summary:The Assistant Nurse Manager will oversee the delivery of optimal, safe, quality nursing care and regulatory compliance while providing leadership to staff by being an effective resource, role model, mentor and change agent for their assigned department. This position will positively influence the quality and delivery of patient care. This incumbent will coordinate all operations on a shift, seven (7) days a week, in order to meet the needs of all customers who are utilizing services within the designated area. Supports the mission and values of the Medical Center. Responsible to evaluate, assess and monitor staff performance and adhere to policies and procedures.
Major Position Responsibilities:
* Participate in nursing and organizational policy formation and decision-making involving staff. * Accepts Unit/Department accountability for services provided to recipients. * Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of healthcare delivery in the assigned Unit/Department. * Ensure that care is delivered with respect for individuals’ rights and preferences. * Intercede as a patient advocate; coordinate nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and assist in integrating services across the continuum of healthcare. * Participate in the recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel. * Assess the impact of, and plan strategies to address such issues as: * Ethnic, cultural, and diversity changes in the population served, and employed, in the assigned Unit/Department * Political and social influences * Financial and economic concerns * The aging of the workforce and population served * Ethical issues related to health care * Assume responsibility for staffing and scheduling personnel. Assignments reflect appropriate utilization of personnel, considering scope of practice, competencies, patient needs and complexity of care. * Ensure appropriate orientation for personnel assigned to their department. * Provide education, credentialing and continuing professional development opportunities. * Provide guidance for and supervision of personnel. * Evaluate performance of personnel, and provides timely feedback, and conducts performance appraisals when applicable. * Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the budget. * Support and provide direction for evidence-based practice by participating in and encouraging the nursing staff in evaluative research activities. * Facilitate educational experiences for nursing and other students. * Support nursing autonomy through a philosophy of shared accountability for nursing practice. * Advocate for a work environment that minimizes work-related illness and injury. * Take personal accountability for professional growth and development. * Provide patient care as needed. * Exercise supervisory responsibilities over the staff. * Monitor the department for regulatory compliance, cleanliness, and that optimal patient care is being provided. * Timely intervention, including disciplining of employees as may be consistent with hospital policy, when infractions are suspected. * On call shifts will also apply for back up to relief charge nurses
Safety and Infection Control Responsibilities Responsible to maintain a safe and clean work environment, including unit based specific safety and infection control requirements.
Qualifications: Two (2) years of clinical experience preferred with an additional Two (2) years of recent Charge Nurse or other management experience preferred
Education: · Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required (all Departments)
Licenses: · Current California RN Licensure, required (all Departments).
Certifications (Department specific) : BHS: BLS, MAB, required. MCH areas: BLS, NRP, ACLS required. Antepartum: BLS, NRP, ACLS Fetal monitoring, required. L&D: BLS, NRP, Fetal monitoring, ACLS required within 6 months of hire, required. Nursery: BLS, NRP, required. Endoscopy: BLS, ACLS required within 6 months of hire, required. PACU, SPRA: BLS, ACLS required within 6 months of hire, required. Pre-op holding: BLS required. PED: PALS, required. Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab: TR/ACLS, required. Home Care, Hospice, Surgical Services, MS: BLS, required.
