No Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs routine and complex autopsy and gross surgical procedures. Performs post mortem evisceration and dissection. Executes specialized techniques for cryopreservation to achieve freezing and thawing without damage. Directs and assists less experienced personnel in the performance of their duties; may serve as preceptor for new employees. Operates and maintains microscopes, micromanipulation equipment, specialized refrigerators and freezers, incubators, laminar flow hoods, fluid analyzers, water ultrapurification system, osmometers, ph meters, and alarm systems for laboratory apparatus. Prepares visual aides and takes medical photographs. Contributes to the preparation of laboratory manuals. Oversees the maintenance of essential supplies and materials. Assists in developing and administering departmental safety policies and procedures. Conducts literary searches for information regarding newly introduced chemicals and their bio-hazardous potential. Performs related responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science. Two years of experience in clinical/anatomic pathology. Certification as medical technologist (MT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Education Exception: The bachelor's degree requirement may be waived for a medical technologist or histotechnologist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or for a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services. Preferred Qualifications Experience with surgical pathology grossing,tissue cutting and preparation for Pathologist review, cytology slide preparation. Additional Job Details Position is located at Emory John's Creek Hospital. Hours may vary dependent upon practice needs and workload.
