Position Summary
The AIX/Linux Administrator will be responsible for conducting systems administration and technical support, managing activities for the AIX/Linux computer platforms, and maintaining current technical knowledge in the AIX/Linux environment. This individual may provide support for, and participate in technical architecture and strategy decisions. Programming and scripting will be required as needed. This individual will participate in all aspects of the AIX/Linux based environments, including communications, connectivity and network integration, security, performance monitoring and tuning, capacity resource monitoring and planning, and operating system upgrades and modifications. Individual must be flexible and able to work extended or off shift hours as needed to meet deadlines and accomplish goals. Work is very complex, analytical, and problem solving in nature. The quality of work must be very high, as an error could have a direct negative impact on patient care, fiscal or administrative decision making. Work is performed unsupervised and is reviewed by the Manager of Platform Services through observation and discussion. The qualified candidate will have experience in the configuration, deployment, management and support of complex AIX/Linux enterprise environments.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

helors degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
is highly desirable that an individual possess an industry recognized certification for at least one of the major hardware platforms, or system operating systems in use at Maine Medical Center.
eptable certifications may include one of the following at appropriate OS level(s), or version(s) where applicable. Suitability of other vendor sponsored certifications will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Vendor Specific: IBM Certified Specialist ? pSeries AIX System Administration, IBM Certified Specialist ? pSeries AIX Systems Support, Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT), Novell Certified Linux Administrator (CLA)
lth Care industry experience preferred.
5.3 to 5 years experience administering AIX and Linux in a networked environment.
6.3 to 5 years experience installing and configuring AIX enterprise environments.
7.3 to 5 years experience with HACMP clusters.
8.3 to 5 years experience maintaining VIO servers, LPAR, NIM, HMC.
erience performing failover testing of HACMP clusters and implementing various failover policies.
erstating and implementation of HACMP concepts: resource groups, startup policies, takeover configurations, heartbeat.
11.3 to 5 years experience performance tuning AIX/Linux and HA environments.
12.3 to 5 years experience configuring AIX/Linux security settings.
13.A solid understanding of the target operating system (i.e. AIX, Linux); understands system resource management (i.e. paging and swapping), inter process communications, device management and the hardware /OS interface, file system concepts, can use performance analysis to tune systems.
m understanding of network/distributed computing environment concepts: host routing tables, fundamental TCP/IP protocols.
ll and/or Perl scripting language.
erstanding of SAN and AIX connectivity concepts.
erstanding of LDAP, NFS, SSH, SMTP, SNMP, SSL concepts.
t possess disciplined and strong analytical problem solving skills.
