Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred. Current Virginia or Compact Registered Nurse license. Professional certification in area of practice is desirable. BLS certification required with additional life support requirements per department.
Clin II Advanced Beginner (1+ years experience):All experienced nurses enter the system at a Clin II level until they complete their formal unit orientation at which time they may challenge the program at the level in which they can demonstrate they are performing. Nurses may choose to remain at a Clin II.
Clin III -V (1+ years experience):Clinical advancement to III through V is sequential and promotion and/or maintenance of attained levels is awarded following the successful application to the Martha Jefferson Advancement in Professional Practice Committee. Professional certification in area of practice is desirable and recommended for Clinical II -IV (required for Clin V).
Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse provides nursing care that includes clinical judgment, caring, collaboration, evaluation and education reflecting an integration of knowledge, skills, experience, and attitudes needed to meet the needs of patients and families.
Clin II Advanced Beginner:Consistently provides effective care to a variety of patients guided by policies, procedures and standards. Builds and expands knowledge base through practice. Exhibits increasingly independent decision making in practice.
Clin III Experienced:Integrates theoretical knowledge with clinical experience in the care of patients and families. Delivers care using a deliberate, systematic approach and practice is guided by increasing awareness of patterns of patient responses in recurrent situations. Functions autonomously in most technical skills.
Clin IV Proficient:Uses in-depth knowledge of nursing practice; perceives each situation as a whole and comprehends the significant elements based on their personal experience. Demonstrates the ability to recognize situational changes that require unplanned or unanticipated interventions. Responds to most situations with care, confidence, speed and flexibility. Progresses from a task oriented to holistic view of patient care. Interprets the patients and family's experiences from a wider perspective and can envision other possibilities.
Clin V Expert:Intuition and skill arise from comprehensive knowledge thoroughly grounded in experience. Practice is characterized by a flexible, innovative and confident self-directed approach to patient and family care. Operates from a deep understanding of the total situation. Collaborates with other caregivers to challenge and coordinate organizational resources in order to maximize advocacy for patient and family care and in achieving the most effective outcomes.
