Job Summary: Responsible for the design and development of electrical systems for Illumina's genetic sequencing instrumentation involving subsystems such as embedded microcontrollers, memory interface, motor drivers, analog-to-digital control systems, and power supplies. . Work with engineers in Singapore, the US, and the UK to integrate these sub-assemblies into larger, complex instrumentation. The position will involve hands-on technical tasks involving all aspects of the product development process, including technical feasibility, development of engineering specifications, design and analysis, test and characterization, management of external suppliers, and generation of production documentation.
JOB DUTIES: . Board-level electronics design of cutting-edge genetic analysis instruments incorporating optics, fluidics, motion system, and advanced image sensors/camera. . Design of analog and digital circuitry to support the above including embedded microcontrollers, memory interface, motor drivers, analog-to-digital control systems, and power supplies. . Execute subsystem designs from early concept phase through Pilot and Release to manufacturing. . Lead and execute design worst-casing (power, timing, temperature, etc) and lead design qualification and testing. . Provide support for either internal manufacturing or critical suppliers, troubleshooting production line issues related to yield, quality and throughput. . Drive selection, qualification, and management of critical suppliers for devices and volume manufacturing tooling. . Follow best practices in Schematic Capture, Layout, Design for EMC, and Design for Assembly and Design for Test.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION: . BSEE required; MSEE preferred . Minimum 5 years' experience developing complex electronic products, preferably scientific instrumentation related to biotech applications. . Direct experience completing projects from breadboard/prototype to release to manufacturing. Demonstrated track record for successfully transferring electronic designs into manufacturing. . Excellent written and oral communication skills. . Willingness to travel to US for extended stays while learning the technology and working with the US design teams. . Expertise working with design partners in the US and local out-sourced CDM/ODMs. Proven ability to manage external design and manufacturing contractors in an ODM model. . Strong technical background with hands-on experience in designing electrical circuits and subsystems for complex instruments, including: imaging/optics, fluidics, motion control, microprocessor/microcontroller/FPGA based design, power supply design, and communication protocols such as including Ethernet, USB, RS-232/485/422, GPIB, PCIe and I2C . Experience taking products through Regulatory Compliance. Understanding of techniques for minimizing EMI emissions and susceptibility. Experience taking designs through IEC-60601 and 61010 test specifications a plus. . Experience with scientific camera development incorporating advanced imaging sensors such as CCD & CMOS arrays a plus.
