Strategically develop, maintain, and enhance Instruments Division intellectual property portfolio. Drive/participate in the development and continuous improvement of the intellectual property systems and procedures to ensure effective/ efficient operations. Support the Division by working with the business units to develop and maintain intellectual property portfolio (including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, etc) in areas of interest. Ensure effective product marking and support surveillance. Perform or arrange for appropriate searches to verify patentability, validity and right to use. Provide organizational intellectual property training. Responsibilities
. Develop patent portfolios for your client groups in key areas of interest. . Meet with Management, Engineers and Marketing personnel in your client groups to get more involved strategically and understand how IP can support their goals and objectives; . Develop, implement and maintain IP Strategy for Business Units, key products and areas of interest. . Develop, implement and continuously improved Best in Class procedures and systems for IP management. . Focus on initiative, driving innovation, and customer service . Support Finance and Legal with agreements related to your support areas in order to help ensure IP interests are protected and proper payment of royalties are made over time. . Review invention disclosures and guide patenting decisions; . Liaise with outside counsel in preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications; . Investigate development status, plans to commercialize inventions, novelty, etc. to support decisions to file corresponding international patents. . Analyze and work with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to respond to Office Actions; . Investigate patent utilization, commercial offensive and defensive value to help make decisions to maintain or abandon patents; . Initiate patentability, right to use, and state of art patent searches; . Support and participate in all patent assertions and defenses. Supervisory Responsibilities

Prefer applied understanding of USPTO patent prosecution processes; . Demonstrated ability to perform IP searches; . Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills; . Demonstrated ability to influence others; . Demonstrated ability to be effectively/appropriately assertive in order to challenge concepts and inspire innovation; . Demonstrated ability to work independently, Education/Special Training Required
. Bachelor''s of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or similar scientific discipline with demonstrated experience in commercial intellectual property management. . Master's of Science in Engineering, Business, or similar disciplines desired.
